Matthew Hettinga

Matthew Hettinga, viola, is a senior at Carnegie Mellon University. He has been studying viola for 5 years, though his primary instrument was violin until fall of 2013.

He has attended the National Orchestra Institute and was a faculty apprentice at the MasterWorks Festival. Principal Teachers have included David Harding and Steve Wedell (viola) and Cyrus Forough and Leonid Polonsky (violin.) He has played in masterclasses for Lawrence Dutton – violist of the Emerson Quartet, Meng Wang and Tatiana Mead Chamis of the Pittsburgh Symphony, and Robert Vernon – principal violist of the Cleveland Orchestra. He has studied chamber music with Noah Bendix-Balgley, Isaias Zelkowicz, and Julia Lichten.
